Parking

When you are coming to the hospital to deliver, enter the Main Lot and look for the two expectant mother parking spaces in the front row. They are marked by a sign adorned with a stork. These spots are only for use by those who are in labor. Once settled in a room, the car should be moved to a regular parking space.

Use the West entrance and come directly to The Joyce Stock Snuggery. If you arrive after hours, come through the Tower Lobby or Emergency Department Entrance.

Check-in

Private Rooms

You will be admitted to a private room, where you will remain for your delivery and throughout your stay. On rare occasions, you may have to share a room following delivery. Should this happen, we will make every effort to return you to a private room as soon as possible. You may choose to labor in Birthing Tub Room if it is not already in use.

The Joyce Stock Snuggery rooms are spacious and you will have the freedom to be up and walking around during labor. Pain medication and anesthetic blocks are available, following discussion with your health care provider, once your labor has progressed and you are in an active pattern. Epidural anesthesia is available 24 hours a day.

Support

While you are in labor, you may choose up to three support people to be with you. Support people age 14 and younger must first attend our “Sibling Attended Birth” class. In the first hour after delivery, visitors are asked to remain in the waiting area to facilitate a recovery and bonding time.

The Joyce Stock Snuggery announces each new baby’s arrival with a special chime played throughout the Hospital.

The Joyce Stock Snuggery places a high priority on providing the support necessary for successful initiation of breastfeeding. Lactation services are available before, during, and after your stay at Glens Falls Hospital.

Breastfeeding is one of the best ways to provide nutrition to your baby. Breast milk contains just the right amount of fat, sugar, water, and protein for human digestion, brain development, and growth. The Joyce Stock Snuggery offers breastfeeding education from two international board certified lactation consultants.

Above, learn more about our breastfeeding class under Childbirth Education Classes.

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. is Quiet Time on The Joyce Stock Snuggery.

Visiting is suspended during this time. Your nurse will, of course, be available for any assistance you need.

Visiting Hours at Albany Med Health System Hospitals

Videotaping and photographs are acceptable before and after – but not during – delivery. Please limit your photography and videography to your baby and family only.

Bella Baby Photography Sessions

Glens Falls Hospital partners with Bella Baby Photography. Bella Baby brings professional photographers to the hospital to capture your first moments with your baby in your hospital room. Online viewing and ordering is available to those with whom you choose to share your password.

Going Home

The average stay a vaginal delivery is 36-48 hours. For Cesarean sections, the average stay is 2-3 days. You may choose to leave the Hospital earlier if you prefer. You will want to talk with your physician or midwife about an early discharge.

Discharge time is 11 a.m. Your ride should go to the Main Lobby ramp. We will escort you to the car and stay with you until your baby is safely secured in the car seat. (Note, the proper placement and safety of the child in the seat are not the responsibility of Glens Falls Hospital.)

Car Seat Safety

State law requires that all infants be secured in an approved car safety seat. Please have your baby’s seat in your room at the time of discharge. If you do not have a safety seat, notify your nurse as early as possible.

If your baby is born at 37 weeks or less, you will need to bring your safety seat to The Joyce Stock Snuggery to be checked before your baby is discharged.

Support After Discharge

After you have returned home, staff will still be available to assist you. If you have a question, concern or just need reassurance about how to care for yourself or your baby, you can call The Joyce Stock Snuggery any time at 518-926-6090.

Breastfeeding support is available through our lactation clinic and by calling 518-926-6055.

Crib safety is extremely important when placing a child in a crib.

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) says the space between crib bars should never exceed 2-3/8 inches. That’s because a wide space could let a baby slip through and possibly get trapped.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends the following crib safety tips to ensure that babies under 24 months sleep safely:

  • Don’t place a baby to sleep in an adult bed. The baby could become entrapped between the bed & wall, or in headboards, footboards or bed frames. Babies could also fall or suffocate in soft bedding.
  • Place babies to sleep in a crib that meets current safety standards and has a firm, tight-fitting mattress. If you use a portable crib or playpen, make sure it meets current safety standards. Use only the mattress or pad provided by the manufacturer.
  • Babies should be placed to sleep on their backs, not their stomachs. According to the Back to Sleep Campaign, babies sleeping on their stomachs seem to be more likely to succumb to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
  • Don’t place a baby to sleep on soft bedding. The baby could suffocate. Do not use soft bedding such as pillows and thick quilts and comforters for infants under 12 months old.
  • Be sure the crib is far enough away from any windows so that an infant cannot reach curtain or drapery cords. Babies have died of strangulation and suffocation after a cord became wrapped around their necks.
The entire Snuggery staff acted promptly and professionally to keep us calm and safely deliver our baby girl, a mere 37 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. The level of care and attention we received both during the surgery and afterward was remarkable.”
