New York State-Designated Primary Stroke Center
Glens Falls Hospital is designated as a New York State Primary Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health. The center is led by physicians and nurses with training in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke, and has established protocols to ensure a rapid response for patients who could be having a stroke. This can include immediate brain imaging and evaluation for possible stroke patients in the Emergency Department.
Glens Falls Hospital is able to accept inbound stroke patients via helicopter transport. This process ensures that all patients in the Adirondack region experiencing neurological symptoms get to the nearest designated Stroke Center with urgency whether they are transported by ground or air.

Stroke Care in the Albany Med Health System
When a higher level of stroke care is necessary, patients will be transferred to the New York State-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center at Albany Medical Center. The Albany Med Health System uses the Viz.ai computer-aided triage system to help facilitate early access to the most advanced stroke care for patients at each of its four hospitals, including Albany Medical Center, Columbia Memorial Health, Glens Falls Hospital and Saratoga Hospital.
