Birth Center in Glens Falls

The Joyce Stock Snuggery Childbirth Center

In its 30-plus years, the Snuggery has been the setting for more than 41,000 births. Each of them received the same outstanding, personalized care the Snuggery has become synonymous with.

The Snuggery was a pioneer in Single-Room Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum Care, and continues that tradition of care today. At The Snuggery, each patient remains in the same private guest room for all phases of the birthing process.

We offer care by physicians and midwives. The obstetrical practice that delivers babies at The Joyce Stock Snuggery is Hudson Headwaters Women's Health in Glens Falls.

Learn more about your care in The Snuggery

All of the nurses and staff in the Snuggery were exceptional. The OR nurses were amazing and made me feel comfortable and calm. Nurse Kristin made sure all our needs were met, answered our questions, and over all, made us feel important and cared for.”

Special Care Nursery

The Joyce Stock Snuggery includes a 10-bed Special Care Nursery for late premature infants, as well as those with breathing or feeding difficulties or infections.

Occasionally, a baby will need to be transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Albany Medical Center (our region's only Level 4-the highest level-NICU) in Albany. Most often, these babies return to Glens Falls Hospital when their conditions have stabilized.

We are vigilant about safety and security for all of our patients and take a number of safety measures to ensure a positive childbirth experience.

Immediately after your baby is born, the nursing staff will place two identification bands and a security “HUGS” tag on the baby’s ankles. A matching baby band will be placed on your wrist. Our security system will be fully explained to you upon your admittance to The Joyce Stock Snuggery. All labor and delivery staff members wear special name tags. Please look for that tag before giving your baby to ANYONE.

For safety reasons, please do not carry your baby in the hallway. When transporting your baby around The Joyce Stock Snuggery, please use the rolling crib at all times.

After delivery your baby may stay with you, in your room, unless there is an unusual condition that requires special care for you or your infant. A nurse will be available to care for you both as a family. Together, you’ll develop a care plan that’s sensitive to the individual needs of you and your baby.

Your baby’s father is welcome at The Joyce Stock Snuggery at any time and may spend the night in the fold-out chair/bed that is available in each room. Siblings are welcome to visit during general visiting hours, provided they are accompanied by an adult.

  • At the Joyce Stock Snuggery, expectant mothers in labor may have up to two unique support people. Siblings 12 and under must attend Sibling Attended Delivery Class.
  • After birth, the spouse/primary support person is welcome anytime for the duration of the mother’s and baby’s hospital stay, otherwise patients can have siblings of the baby and two other visitors at any one time during the regular visiting hours of 11am-8pm.
  • Special Care Nursery patients may have one birth parent plus one significant other.
  • All visitors must be age 12 or older; visitors under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • We recognize that in certain circumstances these guidelines will need to be modified – your care providers will work with you if this is the case in your situation.
