Primary Care For All Ages
We provide routine and preventive care that puts you and your family’s health first. As part of an academic health system, we mix the most up-to-date clinical research and best practices with compassionate, evidence-based patient-centered care.
Our primary care teams, located throughout the Capital Region, treat patients of all ages. See the Get Care section of this page for primary care locations and providers throughout the Albany Med Health System.
Our primary care offices offer additional services on-site and through referrals based on each patient's needs. This can include on-site pharmacists, vaccinations, behavioral health services, women's health, referrals for community-based services to address health-related social needs, weight management, home-care practices, and more.
Below are descriptions of the types of primary care providers you can find by looking in the Physicians and Locations section of this page.
Internal medicine physicians across the Albany Med Health System provide patient-centered primary care to patients 18 years and older. Services provided through our Internal Medicine practices include:
- Direct referrals to specialists across the Albany Med Health System
- Age-specific screenings
- Coordination of hospital care when needed
- Education that empowers patients to be an advocate for their care
- On-site laboratories for blood draws and specimen collections
We provide care for the whole family. Ranging from routine checkups to more specialized services, our providers focus on care in patients of all ages.
Our team of experts includes hospitalists. Hospitalists are physicians and other providers who are trained to provide a wide range of care to patients who are in the hospital. Their focus is solely on caring for and ensuring positive health outcomes in patients admitted to one of our hospitals. Hospitalists work at Albany Medical Center, Glens Falls Hospital, and Saratoga Hospital (through the Saratoga Hospital Medical Group).
Hospitalists coordinate care with primary care physicians and specialists. They also provide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment as necessary.
Pediatric hospitalists, the only such physicians in the region, are available to treat patients at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital.
Powered by the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, the only children’s hospital in northeastern New York, our pediatric medicine teams have extensive training and experience to care for children. Whether your child requires a check-up or treatment for a serious illness or injury, we provide superior care for infants, children, and teens.

Geriatric medicine focuses on the unique health care concerns of older patients, helping them maintain independence and be well for as long as possible. Since many patient concerns are chronic and overlapping, geriatricians work with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care.
The Albany Med Health System's Sports and Exercise Medicine physicians specialize in the medical treatment of conditions such as ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee and shoulder injuries, and fractures. We also provide treatment for concussions, overuse injuries, and sports injuries.
