Advanced Care Close to Home
Our nephrologists care for patients with all forms of acute and chronic kidney disease and hypertension. We offer care for chronic kidney disease, clinical hypertension, glomerular diseases, interventional nephrology, and transplant nephrology. Working with cardiologists, endocrinologists, pathologists, pulmonologists, and rheumatologists, we are dedicated to helping each patient achieve optimal quality of life through treatment designed to fit individual medical needs.
Nephrology focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that affect kidney function. Since many of these are chronic, nephrologists also work with patients to help manage their conditions and prevent progression. The nephrology team will also discuss nutrition and manage your treatment plan, whether it be hemodialysis at home or at a dialysis center, peritoneal dialysis, or kidney transplant.

Glomerular disease refers to a spectrum of diseases involving the filters of the kidney, or the glomeruli. These diseases are often due to inflammation; many can be treated with specialized medications.
Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for patients with a wide range of glomerular diseases, from the most common, like IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis (SLE), and vasculitis, to the more rare, including focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), membranous nephritis, pauci-immune glomerulonephritis, minimal change disease, infection-related glomerulonephritis, thrombotic microangiopathies, and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis.
Led by our fellowship trained nephrologists, the team also includes specialists from rheumatology, pulmonology, hematology and oncology, pediatric nephrology, and pathology.
As part of our commitment to excellence and innovation, we are actively involved in enhancing the field of glomerular nephrology through research. In addition to participating in numerous ongoing domestic and international clinical trials, we are also developing a biorepository of biopsy tissue, urine and plasma samples, and genetic data for use in future studies.
We see glomerular disease patients at our Albany, Latham, and Clifton Park locations. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 518-262-5176.
Training the Next Generation of Physicians
At the Albany Med Health System, part of our mission is fostering educational opportunities for the next generation of medical professionals. We offer two Nephrology Fellowship positions at Albany Medical College, including a two-year clinical nephrology fellowship and a three-year combined nephrology and critical care fellowship. Through our Nephrology Division, medical students have access to a wide range of training resources and are under the mentorship of experienced faculty members.
