Dr. Kate Elizabeth Powers is a pediatric pulmonologist and associate professor of Pediatrics at Albany Medical College. Her special interests include the treatment of cystic fibrosis and asthma as well as improving physical activity in all children and adolescents with chronic lung disease. She cares for patients with general pulmonary conditions, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, asthma, interstitial lung disease, aerodigestive disorders and other lung diseases.
Before joining the Albany Med Health System, she served as the cystic fibrosis pediatric program director at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Powers completed her fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She completed her residency in pediatric medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, and received her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine.
She is the co-director of the pediatric cystic fibrosis program and the site principal investigator of the pediatric Therapeutic Development Network. She is passionate about cystic fibrosis care and clinical research. having conducted clinical research since her fellowship and having contributed to national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation committees addressing food insecurity and social factors that impact health. Her primary research interests include cystic fibrosis, asthma, chronic lung disease, social factors that impact health, and physical activity.
