Dr. Valerian, the Susan Droege Distinguished Chair in Surgery and a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon, cares for patients with gastrointestinal problems and diseases. He has a special interest in benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum and anus. He is experienced in minimally invasive surgery for treatment of colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and other gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Valerian performs transanal endoscopic microsurgery for resection of rectal polyps and tumors, a highly specialized procedure that can avoid a major abdominal operation and not offered at other institutions in the region.
In addition, he performs specialized procedures for the treatment of fecal incontinence and other anal and rectal conditions including hemorrhoids, anal fistulas, rectal abscesses, anal fissures, and rectal prolapse.
