As chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Sanders has a special interest in surgical-associated infections, the wide array of severe hospital- and community-acquired infections, and in improving the use of antibiotics to decrease the potential for antibiotic resistance.
Active in the Capital Region’s medical community for nearly three decades, Dr. Sanders was instrumental in the regional response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Prior to joining Albany Med, he was in private practice at Upstate Infectious Diseases Associates and served as chief medical officer for St. Peter’s Health Partners Acute Care.
Dr. Sanders completed fellowship training in infectious diseases at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He completed residencies in internal medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and at Albany Medical Center, where he was chief resident. He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College.
