Dr. Baranov Accredited in Robotic Surgery
Dmitri Baranov, MD, PhD, medical director of Saratoga Hospital Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Program, has been accredited as a Surgeon of Excellence in robotic surgery.
The accreditation was awarded by the Surgical Review Corporation, a nonprofit safety organization that recognizes facilities and surgeons for providing superior patient care.
Dr. Baranov has been performing sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-n-Y gastric bypass, and revisional bariatric surgeries robotically since 2021.
Robotic technology allows the surgeon 3-D visualization which enhances precision, flexibility, and control during an operation. The surgeon can better see the surgical site compared with traditional techniques. With robotic surgery, surgeons can perform delicate and complex procedures that may be difficult or impossible using other methods.
Since June 2013, the Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Program has performed more than 2,000 successful minimally invasive bariatric surgeries. The comprehensive program offers the most modern laparoscopic and robotic surgical options available, as well as non-surgical weight loss options.
"We're committed to offering our patients the benefits of robotic surgery, and this recognition is a reflection of that," said Richard Falivena, MD, vice president and chief medical and physician integration officer at Saratoga Hospital.
The Albany Med Health System offers robotic surgery for bariatric, general, gynecologic, and urologic procedures at both Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center.
