Dr. Alexandra Paul Named a Chamber Woman of Excellence

Neurosurgeon Dr. Alexandra Paul has been named among the Capital Region Chamber’s 2025 Women of Excellence. Dr. Paul was recognized for Excellence in the Professions as a woman who has achieved success in her career and is dedicated to community service.

A member of Albany Medical Center’s highly specialized endovascular neurosurgery team, Dr. Paul is credited for introducing numerous state-of-the-art technologies to the region, providing our community with access to advanced stroke and brain tumor care.

“Dr. Paul is an incredible member of our faculty and in a short time, has already left an indelible mark on the field of neurosurgery and the health of our region,” said Alan S. Boulos, MD ’94, The Lynne and Mark D. Groban, MD ‘67 Distinguished Dean of Albany Medical College. “She is widely regarded by her colleagues, mentees, and patients, and has developed very close connections with her patients and their families.”

An associate professor, Dr. Paul also serves as fellowship director and a residency associate program director for neurosurgery, is on the medical student admissions committee, and is the Councilor to Alpha Omega Alpha – Theta Chapter, the local chapter of the national medical honor society.

She has been principal investigator for numerous national and international trials addressing issues in patient care, quality, advancing and adopting new technology, and the role of women as leaders in the profession. She also serves on the board of the local American Heart Association.

A native of Saratoga Springs, Dr. Paul graduated from Union College and earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed seven years of residency training at Albany Medical Center before joining the faculty.

Dr. Paul will be formally presented with the award at a ceremony in May.
