Albany Medical Center Recognized Among Newsweek’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity

Albany Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024 by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group. As the hospital that anchors the Albany Med Health System, Albany Medical Center’s designation celebrates the unique role of its workforce, which has grown in collaboration with the System’s community hospitals in Hudson, Glens Falls, and Saratoga Springs.

“Albany Medical Center’s focus is an ongoing commitment to an environment where all employees and students feel valued and heard,” said President and CEO Dennis P. McKenna, MD. “By embracing and celebrating the diversity of our workforce, we also elevate our mission—so we can meet the individual needs of our colleagues, our patients, and our community, expanding access to quality care for all.”

Diversity, equity, and inclusion have long been core values in the System’s mission of patient care, medical education, and clinical research. As the largest private employer in the region, the Albany Med Health System is a reflection of the communities it serves, the people who call them home, and the backgrounds they proudly hold. Current employees represent all races, genders, religions; have come to Albany from up to 80 different countries; and span five generations. Albany Medical Center’s 10,000 employees fill more than 980 different job types, both clinical and operational, that are accessible to all educational and ability levels.

Employees also participate in supporting dozens of partnerships Albany Medical Center maintains with community organizations, including the Center for Disability Services, the New York State Black Nurses Coalition, the Double H Ranch, Girls, Inc., the United Way, Capital District Latinos, Alpha Phi Alpha, the NAACP, the Capital District YMCA, and more. These organizations share the System’s goals of addressing social determinants of health and creating inclusive opportunities.
