Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: | Allow to clot, centrifuge for 20 minutes, refrigerate. Serum must be removed from red top tube. Rasburicase will cause enzymatic degradation of the uric acid within blood/plasma/serum samples left at room temperature, resulting in low uric acid levels. Special handling requirements include: 1. Blood must be collected into pre-chilled tubes containing heparin anticoagulant. 2. Samples must be immediately immersed in an ice water bath. 3. Plasma must be maintained in an ice water bath and analyzed for uric acid within 4 hours of collection. |
