Specimen Collection: Nasopharyngeal (NP) in M4 viral transport media is preferred. Oropharyngeal (OP), Mid-turbinate, Sputum, Endotracheal aspirates, BAL, etc.) in a sterile container is acceptable.
Minimum Volume: Nasopharyngeal (NP) swab in one viral transport is specimens of choice. Sputum, Endotracheal aspirates, BAL, Oropharyngeal (OP), etc. are acceptable. 0.5 Ml
Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: NP, OP & Mid Turbinate swab in viral transport. Place on wet ice or refrigerate. Submit lower Respiratory specimens in a bronch tube or sterile, capped container. Transport (Hand Deliver) to the laboratory ASAP.
Reference Values: Negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA.

Test Frequency: Specimens semi-batched on an hourly basis from receipt into lab 7am - 7pm, based on Lab Capability
Routine TAT: 6hrs from 7am - 7pm, 12 hrs from 7pm - 7am, based on lab capability
Stat TAT: 6 hrs from 7am - 7pm, 12 hrs from 7pm - 7am. STAT testing requires approval from Hospital Administration as tests kit availability is limited.
