Specimen Collection: Nasopharyngeal swabs in M4 viral transport media. Specimen in VTM can be held at room temp for less than or equal to 4 hours. Place on wet ice or refrigerate if greater than 4 hours. Transport to the laboratory ASAP.

Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: Place on wet ice or refrigerate. Transport to the laboratory ASAP. Do not use Calcuim alginate or wooden swabs or cotton swabs.
Reference Values: Negative DNA by PCR for organisms listed: The following organism types and subtypes are identified using the FilmArray RP: Adenovirus, Coronaviruses HKU1,NL63,OC43, and 229E, Human Metapneumovirus, Influenza A, Influenza A subtypes H1, H3, and 2009 H1, Influenza B, Parainfluenza Viruses 1, 2, 3, and 4, Rhinovirus/Enterovirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Bordetella pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Chlamydophila pneumoniae.
