Specimen Collection: 1.5 mL of fluid in Sterile Container (Preferred) or anaerobic transport container.
Minimum Volume: 1 mL for culture, in addition 0.2 mL for Joint Infection PCR panel.
Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: Order routine culture in conjunction with this test. Transport at room temperature within 24 hours.
Reference Values: Negative DNA by PCR for organisms and resistance genes listed: Gram Positive Bacteria: Anaerococcus prevotii/vaginalis, Clostridium perfringens, Cutibacterium avidum/granulosum, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Finegoldia magna, Parvimonas micra, Peptoniphilus, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus lugdunensis, Streptococcus spp., Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, & Streptococcus pyogenes. Gram Negative Bacteria: Bacteroides fragilis, Citrobacter, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Kingella kingae, Klebsiella aerogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae group, Morganella morganii, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., & Serratia marcescens, Yeast: Candida, and Candida albicans.
