Specimen Collection: | Normally sterile body fluids include pleural, peritoneal, pericardial, synovial, aqueous and vitreous fluids. At least 1 mL fluid in sterile container. Submit sample in an anaerobic transport tube if an anaerobic culture will also be ordered. If fluid is placed in blood culture bottles, send separate aliquot of fluid for gram stain. For spinal fluid, order test Culture, Bacterial, Fluid, Spinal Fluid. |
