| Specimen Collection: | 1. Genital Swabs: Using Aptima unisex swabs provided in collection kit (Purple), obtain specimen from male urethra or female endocervical canal only. Using Aptima Multitest swab provided in collection kit (Orange), obtain specimen from vaginal source. 2. Urine Samples: Patient must NOT have urinated within 1 hour prior to collection. Collect first 20-30 mLs voided only. Larger collection volumes may compromise test sensitivity. Female patients should NOT cleanse the labial area prior to collection. 3. Liquid cytology: 1 mL of PreservCyt specimen. 4. Rectal swabs: Insert blue shafted swab (DO NOT USE WHITE SHAFTED SWAB) from Aptima unisex or Aptima multitest collection kit 2"-4" into rectum and rotate to sample mucosal surfaces. 5. Pharyngeal swabs: Insert blue shafted swab (DO NOT USE WHITE SHAFTED SWAB) from Aptima unisex or Aptima multitest collection kit 2"-4" into posterior pharynx and tonsillar area. 6. Eye Swabs or Other sources NOT listed: Order Miscellaneous Lab, Chlamydia Trachomatis, NAAT to Special Chemistry for send-out to referal lab. NYS Test Request Approval Form must be submitted for Neonates. Special collection kit and instructions may be obtained from the Microbiology Lab at 518-262-3511. |
