Specimen Collection: 1. Genital Swabs: Using swabs provided in collection kit, obtain specimen from male urethra or female endocervical canal only. 2. Urine Samples: Patient must NOT have urinated within 1 hour prior to collection. Collect first 20-30 mLs voided only. Larger collection volumes may compromise test sensitivity. Female patients should NOT cleanse the labial area prior to collection. 3. Liquid cytology: 1 mL of PreservCyt specimen. 4. Rectal swabs: Insert blue shafted swab (DO NOT USE WHITE SHAFTED SWAB) 2"-4" into rectum and rotate to sample mucosal surfaces. 5. Pharyngeal swabs: Insert blue shafted swab (DO NOT USE WHITE SHAFTED SWAB) 2"-4" into posterior pharynx and tonsillar area. 6. Eye Swabs or Other sources NOT listed: Order Miscellaneous Lab, Chlamydia Trachomatis, NAAT to Special Chemistry for send-out to referal lab. NYS Test Request Approval Form must be submitted for Neonates. Special collection kit and instructions may be obtained from the Microbiology Lab at 262-3511.

Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: Maintain at room or refrigerated temperature. Transport urine to lab within 24 hours. Gray top urine vacutainers are unacceptable.
