Head and Neck Oncologic Surgeon Dr. Tam Ramsey Joins Albany Medical Center
Tam Ramsey, MD, an otolaryngologist specializing in head and neck cancer surgeries and microvascular reconstruction, has joined Albany Medical Center’s Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) and has been appointed assistant professor at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Ramsey performs resections for a broad spectrum of head and neck tumors, including those of the salivary glands, oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, thyroid and parathyroid glands, skull base, and skin. She utilizes transoral robotic surgeries for select oropharyngeal (throat) cancers. Dr. Ramsey also specializes in advanced reconstructive techniques, including free tissue transfers from the arm, leg, and back to reconstruct large head and neck defects. Her experience in ultrasound-guided office biopsy of neck masses significantly reduces wait times for diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Ramsey earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude and receiving the Merck Manual Award, the Academic Excellence in Neuroscience Award, and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology at Albany Medical Center, where she was honored with the Resident Teaching Award. She further advanced her skills through a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Ramsey has authored over 19 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, including The Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Journal of Head and Neck, and International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology. She co-authored a book chapter on Laryngeal Preservation Strategies in Surgical Oncology Clinics and currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
