Our surgeon, Dmitri Baranov, MD, has extensive experience in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, including adjustable gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and gastric balloon placement. We also are experts at making adjustments that can help gastric band patients achieve their weight loss goals. Located in Saratoga Springs, we serve patients from across the Greater Capital Region, as well as western Massachusetts and Vermont.
The Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Program at Saratoga Hospital is fully accredited as a comprehensive bariatric facility by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. This designation signifies that our program meets rigorous standards for bariatric care. It also indicates that we excel at providing the resources necessary to meet the needs of bariatric patients, pre- and post-operatively.

Our pre- and post-operative process is rigorous and comprehensive because we understand the requirements most insurance companies have and can help you navigate the process. That said, there are limitations to each individual plan. Call your carrier to ask about your coverage.
About Dr. Baranov
Dmitri Baranov, MD, PhD, was named medical director of our bariatric surgery program because of his exceptional combination of experience, credentials, successful results, and empathy for bariatric patients. He chose to specialize in bariatric surgery because “no other surgery has such a profound, positive impact on patient health, wellbeing, and quality of life.”
Dr. Baranov devotes 100 percent of his professional time to bariatric surgery. He has completed over 3,000 successful bariatric procedures.
A native of Russia, Dr. Baranov earned his medical degree from Saratov State Medical University. He also holds a PhD from Russian State Medical University in Moscow. After coming to the U.S., Dr. Baranov completed a general surgery residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York and a fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Boston University Medical Center. 
Dr. Baranov is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, diplomate of American Board of Obesity Medicine and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He has published numerous articles and abstracts.
Dr. Baranov is an SRC-accredited Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery at Saratoga Hospital.
