Dr. Darryl DiRisio Named Chair of Department of Neurosurgery
Darryl DiRisio, MD, has been appointed chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. DiRisio will support leaders within Albany Medical College to improve neurosurgical care delivery throughout the Faculty Physician Group and identify opportunities to improve care delivery collaboratively across the Albany Med Health System.
“As leader of the Spine Center since 2016, Dr. DiRisio’s research and expertise in spine surgery and device development has been an asset to both our department and the greater community,” said Dr. Boulos, The Lynne and Mark D. “Albany Medical Center has a long history of providing world class neurosurgical care,” said Dr. DiRisio. “My vision is to carry on that tradition while continuing to lead the department in clinical trials, translational research, innovation in neurosurgery, and educating the next generation of health professionals and leaders to serve not only our region but across the country.”
A long-standing leader in the field of neurosurgery, Dr. DiRisio was also selected by colleagues as Albany Medical Center’s Employee of the Year in 2003 for his contributions as a physician, educator, researcher, leader, and team member.
He is co-founder and chief medical officer of ReVivo Medical, LLC, a medical device startup company responsible for developing new products designed to improve spinal fusion surgery. Dr. DiRisio joined Albany Medical Center in 1999 after completing a fellowship in complex spine surgery at the University of New Mexico.
