Dr. Lewis is a general adult psychiatrist providing inpatient psychiatric care at Albany Medical Center and education of medical students and psychiatric residents. He is also a physician-scientist, with over 40 peer-reviewed original research and review publications. His work spans basic and translational neuroscience focused on identifying novel methods to promote the function of brain regions affected by psychiatric and neurological disease. These studies have been supported by grant funding from several organizations, including the National Institutes of Health and Autism Speaks. Dr. Lewis is also interested in applying quantitative methods to understand psychiatric patient flow within the context of hospital systems.

Dr. Lewis is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern University’s Medical Scientist Training Program, where he earned his medical degree as well as a PhD in neuroscience. He completed an adult psychiatry residency, followed by a neuroscience research fellowship at Yale. After joining the faculty at Yale briefly, he moved to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was a tenure-track Assistant Professor prior to moving to Albany Medical College and Albany Medical Center Hospital in 2023 as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry.

A native of the Albany region, Dr. Lewis is thrilled to return to upstate New York along with his family.
