Dr. Ullmann is an endocrine and general surgeon in Albany Medical Center’s Department of Surgery. He specializes in surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. He also has expertise in minimally invasive surgery, including focused parathyroidectomy, adrenalectomy, and robotic surgery. He cares for patients with hernias and gallbladder issues.
Dr. Ullmann’s research focuses on the treatment of thyroid cancer, particularly in reducing overtreatment of small tumors and developing new therapies for patients with aggressive cancers. He has presented his research on thyroid cancer at the American College of Surgeons’ Clinical Congress and the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons’ annual meeting, both of which he is a member. He has co-authored more than 35 peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Ullmann completed an endocrine surgery fellowship at University of California, San Francisco. He also completed an endocrine oncology research fellowship and a general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Ullmann is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
During his residency at Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Ullmann was selected as the administrative chief resident. He also received the Hassan A. Naama, MB, B.Ch. Award for outstanding mentorship and the New York Presbyterian Hospital Distinguished Housestaff Award for professionalism and service. He was also awarded for teaching medical students and for serving as the resident clerkship coordinator of the medical student surgery clerkship at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
