Geriatric Medicine

Dedicated to Caring for Older Patients

Geriatric medicine focuses on the unique health care concerns of older patients , helping them maintain independence and be well for as long as possible. Since many patient concerns are chronic and overlapping, geriatricians work with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care. This approach treats the whole person and helps patients and families understand their diagnoses and make informed decisions regarding treatment options.

Quality of LIfe for Inpatients & Outpatients

Geriatricians work with patients who have many of the conditions common among an older population, such as recurrent falls, multiple medications, or trouble with memory or cognitive decline. Providers are dedicated to helping patients maintain function and independence for as long as possible.

Geriatricians also have expertise with advance directives and selecting health care proxies.

Mallory Otto, MD
I feel it is essential to focus on my patients' health in the context of their broader values and lives. Hearing my patients' stories of their families, former or current professions, hobbies and interests, and helping them continue to enjoy these important aspects of their lives are the most rewarding parts of being a physician.”
