NextGen Neuroscience Program Returns for Third Summer
Albany Medical College’s NextGen Neuroscience Virtual Summer Program – a free, eight-week interactive course for local high school and undergraduate college students – returns this summer for the third year.
Hosted by the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (DNET), the NextGen program offers an introduction to neuroscience research and scientific communication skills, as well as educational guidance from scientists and physicians for students considering careers in neuroscience.
“One of DNET’s missions is to foster diversity and we strongly encourage minorities and those who are historically underrepresented in the sciences to apply,” said Ellinor Grinde, an instructor in DNET and coordinator of the NextGen program.
Eligible applicants must be at least 16 years old, have taken a high school biology course, and be a current high school or undergraduate student.
Lectures will cover academic, scientific and professional development topics, including how to write a research paper, developing a scientific hypothesis, the phases of clinical trials, and what grad school and neurosurgery residencies are like. Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with a DNET scientist on a mentored research project.
This year’s program will run from June 13 to August 5. The registration deadline is March 10.
