When You Need It

The Emergency Department renovation plan will add new spaces to care for circumstances that need special care.

Working with renowned emergency room architects, we have designed an expansion that adds approximately 7,000 square feet, including more than 20 patient care rooms and an additional care zone for the most critically ill and complex patients. This allows patients with less severe emergencies to receive care near the front of Emergency Department in smaller private spaces without the need for a bed or stretcher, allowing for more seamless and appropriate care.

Critical Care Receiving

As the busiest trauma center in New York State, Albany Medical Center cares for the most critical patients in their time of most need. These vulnerable patients will be assessed and treated by our highly trained staff in state-of-the-art trauma rooms until the immediate crisis is over and they can be transferred to a hospital unit for further care.

Geriatric Care

Our population is aging. In this special area, we will care for older patients who may need more room to maneuver a wheelchair or walker, or who may need more help from a family member or caretaker. Older patients also may have underlying conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and brittle bones.

Expedited Care

Fortunately, many emergency patients, such as someone with a broken ankle, can be treated quickly and efficiently.

For these patients, recliners and cubicles will be available as a plus for both the patient, who wants to be treated and on their way as quickly as possible, and the caregivers, who can reserve larger rooms for those who need more time for treatment in the Emergency Department.
